Canadian Boxer Marie Al-Ahmadieh Withdraws from World Qualifier 2 Due to Health Concerns

[Bangkok, May 30th] – It is with regret that we announce the withdrawal of Canadian boxer Marie Al-Ahmadieh from the World Qualifier 2 in Bangkok, Thailand, her first bout scheduled for May 30th, 2024.

Marie Al-Ahmadieh (club: Pound4Pound, QC), competing in the 57kg weight division, had dedicated herself to rigorous training and preparation leading up to the competition. However, after careful consideration and consultation with the coaching staff, it was decided that Al-Ahmadieh’s health and well-being must take precedence.

Despite her dedication and commitment to the sport, unforeseen health-related issues arose, prompting the decision to withdraw from the competition. The coaching staff, in collaboration with medical professionals, determined that it was in Marie’s best interest to prioritize her health and safety above all else.

Commenting on the decision, High Performance Director Kraig Devlin stated, “Marie has been an integral part of our team, and her dedication to her craft is commendable. However, in light of recent health-related concerns, it was deemed necessary to withdraw her from the competition to ensure her well-being. We stand by Marie’s decision to prioritize her health, and we offer her our full support during this time.”

Marie Al-Ahmadieh’s withdrawal serves as a reminder of the importance of athletes’ health and safety in competitive sports. While the withdrawl may be disappointing, it underscores the responsibility of coaches, athletes, and officials to prioritize the well-being of competitors above all else.

All of the Boxing Canada community extends our best wishes to Marie Al-Ahmadieh for a swift and full recovery. Her resilience and determination will undoubtedly see her through this challenging time, and we look forward to her return to the ring in the future.
