With 11 days remaining until the start of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games boxing competition, Boxing Canada would like to introduce you to National Boxing Team athlete Bryan Colwell. Bryan is representing Canada in the male 92kg weight division and boxes out of Victoria Martial Arts in Victoria, BC. Originally from Fort St. John in northeast British Columbia, Bryan originally moved to Victoria to pursue playing soccer at the University of Victoria. 

While Bryan’s favourite professional boxer is Tyson Fury because “his movement, speed and quickness for such a huge human being are incredible,” his all-time favourite athlete is Micheal Jordan because “he took sports mentality and focus on your craft to another level. He set the standard for those who are obsessed with their sport.”

Bryan is most proud to be the only athlete out of BC to qualify twice for the Pan American Games. Bryan is very committed to the sport of boxing and funds his international competitions with his work as a boxing and personal trainer. Bryan’s greatest strengths as a boxer are his power and conditioning while he continues to work to improve his relaxation and footwork. 

Bryan enjoys spending time with his fiancé, walking their dog, playing video games, and reading high-fantasy novels.  If Bryan could wake up tomorrow with any ability, it would be to “heal like wolves.”
