Although he finished the bout with a loss on points, Petanqui’s resilience and strategic adjustments spoke volumes about his potential.

Reflecting on Petanqui’s performance, head coach Samir expressed pride in his fighter’s efforts, stating, “Junior was landing his rear hand, but could not find his rhythm in the first round. He was able to adjust in the 3rd round while landing combinations and being first. I’m proud of Junior and he has a great future ahead of him. Meanwhile, in the 54kg weight division, Scarlett Delgado (Destiny Boxing, Hamilton, ON) faced off against a formidable opponent from Kenya, demonstrating remarkable composure and technical prowess. Delgado’s strategic approach, coupled with her precision punches and agile footwork, enabled her to secure a convincing unanimous decision victory.

Asked about what she thought of her performance, Scarlett shares that she is happy with the outcome. β€˜β€™I’m happy with the result but I know I can do better. I plan on bringing a better performance for my next bout. My next fight against Mongolia will be a very competitive match. I’m excited to challenge myself.”

Scarlett also shared that the camp leading to the competition was a huge asset. ”I was able to settle my pace and rhythm a lot quicker than the last tournament in the quarter. I found my range and picked my shots a lot more effectively.” Commenting on Delgado’s performance, coach Samir commended her ability to navigate the challenges posed by her opponent, stating, “Scarlett fought a physically and mentally tough fighter from Kenya. She was able to adjust well to her opponent, using her footwork and mixing her punches with precision.”
