Terris Smith and Keven Beausejour Creating Excitement at 2nd World Qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok, THA β€” May 27, 2024 β€” Canadian National Team boxers Terris Smith and Keven Beausejour showcased exceptional skill and determination as they competed at the 2nd World Qualifier in Bangkok, Thailand, today.

Terris Smith (club: Island Boxing, prov: BC) demonstrated her prowess in the ring with a strong victory over Aslahan Mehmedova from Bulgaria. Smith secured a resounding 3-0 win, executing her game plan flawlessly. Coach El Mais commented, “Terris followed the game plan perfectly. She was able to cut the ring perfectly and land her rear hand with authority. You can see she’s progressed since Italy. Her confidence showed and now everyone knows she’s a threat.”

The first fight for Terris went well and she felt strong. β€œI am happy with my performance. I followed the game plan and got stronger each round. Great way to start the tournament.” she said.Β

Terris next meets Amy Boardhurst from GBR on May 29th. When asked about her focus for her next round Terris said, β€œI am anticipating a very tough next fight. It will be one of my toughest fights yet. I am excited to test myself!”

Meanwhile, Keven Beausejour (club: The Corner, prov: QC) faced a challenging bout against Go Wakaya of Japan. Despite a valiant effort and an outstanding performance in the third round, Beausejour narrowly missed out on victory, with the judges’ decision ultimately favoring Wakaya. Coach El Mais praised Beausejour’s resilience, noting “Keven’s bout was very close and just shy of the win. He adjusted superbly in the 3rd round winning it unanimously, but ultimately just fell just short of closing the gap. We couldn’t ask more from Keven. He left everything in the ring – I’m so proud of his performance.”

The Canadian contingent at the 2nd World Qualifier has demonstrated their formidable presence on the international stage, with both Smith and Beausejour exemplifying the spirit of perseverance and excellence in boxing.
