NTP 2026 Update

The 2026 National Team Plan has been updated.

As posted on June 11th the criteria for the 2026 Continental Championships, Priority 2, was missing a tie-breaking function.

Because the results needed to achieve this criteria were already completed, Boxing Canada sought three non-staff experts to review the criteria and propose a tie breaking criteria to ensure that the criteria could be executed.

The panel consisted of Board Member with the role of athlete representation, a current athlete unaffected by the criteria, and Own The Podium’s High Performance Advisor to Boxing.

Upon review of the published criteria the panel suggested an update that was accepted by the staff, the NTP was updated, and the criteria will now be executed.

The panel also recommended that a universal tie breaking system be put in place for the next NTP to avoid a similar problem in the future. Based on that recommendation the draft of the 2027 NTP now includes a universal tied breaker that can be used in cases where specific tie-breaking  or athlete ranking is not expressly indicated for a particular criteria.

Thanks to the panel for their input.
