2025-26 AAP Carding Nominations

Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program Carding nominations are now complete.

What is the Athlete Assistance Program?

The Athlete Assistance Program (AAP), also referred to as “Carding,” a program funded by Sport Canada. The AAP objective is to support Canadian athletes identified and nominated by Boxing Canada as performing at or having the greatest potential to achieve top eight (8) results at the Olympic/Paralympic Games and World Championship. AAP funding is intended to contribute to an athlete’s living and costs associated with preparing for and participating in international sports. It is not intended to serve as an athlete’s sole source of income. Sport Canada’s general policies and procedures governing AAP can be found on the Sport Canada website: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/services/funding/athlete-assistance.html.

2025-26 Carding Criteria

The 2025-26 carding cycle runs May 1st 2025 to January 31st 2026. Criteria for selection for the program was published on May 24th, 2024. Sport Canada provided 8 “cards” to Boxing Canada for this carding cycle. Four cards are reserved for women, four cards reserved for men. The number of cards provided to each sport is derived by the number of athletes performing at the Top-8 level at World Championships and Olympic Games, and is also influenced by the number of athletes qualifying for the Olympics and attending the World Championships.

2025-26 Carding Nominations

Boxing Canada has identified a long list of athletes who have attained criteria in the selection document. Cards will be offered to these athletes, in order, until all 8 cards have been accepted. A full report on how athletes were ranked is available here and was approved by Sport Canada. Boxing Canada also maintained a live dashboard of all athletes who had met carding criteria for the entire year so that athletes could stay up-to-date on their status within the program and know where they ranked. Note that Olympic Bronze Medalist Wyatt Sanford achieved the Priority 1 standard for carding, but has elected to not accept carding for the season.
