A message from Boxing Canada’s President

March 24, 2010. On behalf of Boxing Canada, I would like to congratulate the Canadian Olympic Committee and the Canadian Paralympic Committee for making a difficult but responsible decision to not send Canadian athletes to the Olympic Games if it was to take place in summer 2020. Collective health, wellbeing and safety are paramount and should always be the first priority.

Canada showed leadership and we are pleased the International Olympic Committee has postponed the Olympic Games to a later date.

To our athletes, we understand how this news is disappointing after working tirelessly towards reaching the most prestigious competition in the world. However, it is only a delay of your Olympic dream and you will have the opportunity to shine on the world stage once this pandemic is behind us.

To our boxing clubs and administrators, we understand the financial impact this pandemic has on our boxing family. However, we must first focus on the health and safety of our athletes, our coaches and officials, and then plan for our economic recovery.

We should all be proud to be Canadians, leading the world through our Canadian values.

In the meantime, stay safe and take care of yourself to mitigate the risks associated to COVID-19. We will come back stronger and more united from these difficult times.

Boxing Canada’s President
