Canadian Boxing Team Competes with Heart at Boxam Elite International Tournament in Spain
La Nucía, Spain | February 6, 2026
Boxing Canada continued its efforts at the Boxam Elite International Tournament today with strong performances from its athletes as the event moves deeper into the semifinal and final phases.
Results from Today’s Semifinal Bouts
Marie Al-Ahmadieh (57 kg, QC, The Corner) fought a strong opponent in the semifinals, Punrawee Ruenros of Thailand. Ruenros, an accomplished Thai amateur boxer who has represented Thailand at multiple major international competitions, including the Olympic Games in 2020 and 2024. Marie walks out of the tournament with a bronze medal against a strong opponent, and strong momentum going into upcoming World Boxing World Cup competitions.
Max Tomines (55 kg, ON, Tomines Boxing) delivered a determined performance in the men’s semifinals. Boxam is Max’s first time representing Canada on the national team, and he showcased strong boxing skills and unwavering effort throughout his bout. In a highly competitive matchup, Max narrowly lost by split decision to England’s Ellis Trowbridge, a respected British amateur boxer from Essex who has competed internationally and continues to develop his ring résumé. Max’s performance in his debut with the national team solidified his status as a rising talent and laid a strong foundation for his future on the national team.
In the men’s 60 kg division, Keoma-Ali Al-Ahmadieh (QC, The Corner) secured his spot in tomorrow’s finals with a decisive victory over India’s Mohammed Hussam Uddin. Uddin has been a key member of India’s boxing contingent at Boxam, producing strong performances, including a polished display to advance through earlier rounds. Keoma’s victory sets up an exciting final bout against Sachin of India, a former Youth World Champion. The Elite Men’s 60kg final will be streamed live on the Spanish Boxing Fedeation’s YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/@federacionespanoladeboxeof1112).
Boxing Canada’s coaching staff applauds the performances of all our athletes who stepped into the ring in this tournament. While some fell short of advancing, each bout provided valuable experience against world-class competition. Team members who exited the tournament early have spent their mornings sparring with their international peers to gain experience. In the afternoons, the Canadians have been loudly supporting their teammates in the ring.
