Boxam Elite International Tournament Day 3 results
Canadian flyweight Mckenzie Wright (ON, Destiny Boxing) started off Day 3 of the BOXAM Elite International 2026 in La Nucia, Spain, losing her women’s 51 kg bout against one of India’s top competitors. India’s boxing squad had a standout day overall, with multiple victories in the lighter weight classes — including impressive wins from Nitu and Kusum in the 51 kg division earlier in the session, where Nitu forced a referee stoppage in Round 1 and Kusum edged her opponent on points. Wright, a multiple-time Canadian national champion and respected international amateur who narrowly missed Olympic qualification for Paris and competed at the 2025 World Championships, showed her usual grit and ring generalship but couldn’t secure the judges’ favor against her Indian opponent, who advanced amid a dominant overall performance from the Indian team.
Next up was 57 kg boxer Marie Al-Ahmadieh (QC, The Corner) who turned in a strong performance today advancing her run in the women’s 57 kg bracket. Al-Ahmadieh earned a 4–1 decision over Daria-Olha Hutarina of Ukraine, showcasing sharp combinations, smart footwork, and tactical discipline throughout the fight. The win moves the Montreal rising talent further into this highly competitive international field and marks a positive step in her 2026 season — building on her national titles and international experience as she continues to gain momentum against quality global competition.
Adding to his already impressive international debut, Maximus Tomines (ON, Tomines Boxing) stepped into the ring today and edged-out Beksultan Boranbek of Kazakhstan, a strong young contender and Youth World Champion in the same weight category, in a split 3:2 decision. In the tightly contested fight, Boranbek’s combination of pressure and experience were impressive, but Tomines showed grit, determination, and numerous examples of his well-rounded boxing skill. The bout served as a valuable learning experience for the Canadian, and a sign of his potential as part of Canada’s elite boxing future. Out of the ring, Tomines comes from a tight-knit boxing community — his family runs a boxing gym in the Greater Toronto Area, where he grew up training and developing his craft before earning national team selection and this first elite international start. No doubt Max will be able to hear the cheers from Toronto during his semi-final!
Canadian lightweight Keoma Al-Ahmadieh (QC, The Corner) scored a notable victory today, earning a split-decision win (3-2) over Serik Temirzhanov of Kazakhstan in their men’s 60 kg bout. Temirzhanov entered the fight as one of Kazakhstan’s top prospects, but Al-Ahmadieh’s smart boxing and resilient work over the distance impressed the judges and sent the Kazakh standout home earlier than expected. The win highlights a strong showing for the Canadian, adding to Al-Ahmadieh’s growing resume against elite global competition and underscoring Canada’s depth in the amateur ranks.
Rounding out the day was 65 kg boxer Gabriel Aly-Labrie (QC, Pound4Pound) stepped into the ring against a tough competitor from Spain Conde Oier Ibarreche. The result was a 1:4 loss for Aly-Labrie, but he showed maturity, grit, and technical boxing throughout the fight. This was no small feat as he was competing after receiving a cut from a head-butt during his opening bout. The Coaching staff worked with the competition physician to get Gabriel ready to box and were pleased that the National Team rookie made the most of his opportunity.
