Boxing Canada Statement on Women’s Boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
Boxing Canada is aware of the conversation concerning womenβs boxing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The eligibility rules set for the Olympic Games have been in place for many years, including for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. All the Paris-qualified athletes have competed internationally for several years and in the sanctioned qualifying events leading up to the Olympic Games.
Boxing Canada prioritizes the safety of its athletes, coaches, and officials. We would never enter our athletes in any tournament or competition in which ineligible athletes were allowed to compete. Boxing Canada is confident that the International Olympic Committee and Paris Boxing Unit have followed, and will continue to follow, published rules to ensure the safety of all athletes competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
We hope that the focus of Canadians is on the spectacular performances of Team Canada, including Wyatt Sanford who is on track to be the first medal-winning Canadian Boxer since David Defiagbon who won silver in 1996 Atlanta.
