TEAM CANADA PUTS ON STRONG SHOWING AT MELEE GALA XI

Team Canada delivered a competitive performance against the United States at Melee Gala XI in Winnipeg on Saturday, with Canadian boxers earning one victory in a six-bout international dual.

Canada’s biggest breakthrough came in the final bout of the night, as Umar Carcamo earned a split-decision victory over USA’s Tyric Trapp at 80 kg. Carcamo’s win capped an exciting night of international boxing and gave Team Canada its second victory of the evening.

Mckenzie Wright opened for Canada at 51 kg, putting together a closely contested performance against USA Boxing’s Noelle Haro. The bout went the distance, with Haro taking a split decision.

The Canadian delegation also featured Max Tomines (55 kg), Florence Belle Germaine (60 kg), Yacine Benaoudia (65 kg) and Viktoria Penney (75 kg), who gained valuable experience against a USA Boxing team featuring athletes from its 2026 High Performance Team and High Performance Squad.

The event provided another important opportunity for Canada’s national-team athletes to test themselves against high-level international opposition as they continue their development on the international stage and prepare for the 2026 Continental Championships this October.
