Canada’s Carolyn Veyre Wins WBC World Title!

Congratulations to Carolyn Veyre, Tokyo 2020 Olympian, on her successful challenge for the WBC Super Featherweight Title!

Grand Rapids, Michigan — February 10, 2026 — Caroline Veyre has captured the vacant World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Featherweight World Title, outpointing Belgian veteran Delfine Persoon by unanimous decision in a 10-round clash Tuesday night at GLC Live at 20 Monroe. The judges scored the fight 95-91, 94-92 and 98-88 in Veyre’s favor.

The bout — which was televised live on DAZN — marked Veyre’s first world title victory as a professional. The 37-year-old’s speed and ring craft helped her accumulate rounds on the cards, but the match was anything but smooth. Both fighters were penalized two points each for fouls, including holding and shots to the back of the head.

Despite the clear margin on the scorecards, many attendees expressed frustration with the stoppages and frequent clinches. The contrast of styles, age and ring experience between the two fighters — a younger, technically skilled challenger against a seasoned pressure-fighter – made for a grinding effort.

Online boxing communities described the performance as ”ugly but effective” — praising Veyre’s tactical execution while lamenting the fight’s limited exchanges and lack of sustained action. Analysts applauded Veyre for sticking to a tactical game plan against a storied veteran.

When the action settled into pure boxing exchanges, Veyre appeared to have the sharper game plan. Her hands were faster, her technique more polished, and she capitalized on the short opportunities she created—darting in with combinations and slipping back out before Persoon could smother her and turn the contest into a clinch-heavy struggle.

Persoon, 41, entered the bout with a record reflecting decades of elite competition and previously held world titles at lightweight. Her forward pressure and physicality created a lot of clinches and awkward moments, a style that frustrated purists hoping for more fluid action.

Veyre’s world title milestone comes during a transitional phase for the super featherweight division; the belt had been vacated by Alycia Baumgardner late last year. With the green and gold WBC belt now around her waist, Veyre has positioned herself as a major player in the division, with potential future matchups against other top contenders already the subject of fan speculation.

Boxing Canada is proud of Carolyn’s efforts and is happy to see a national team veteran continuing to pursue excellence post Olympics. She is a great role model for Canadian Boxing.
