Canada’s Rising Stars finish in the Medals at the U19 World Championships in Colorado

Colorado Springs, CO – October 29, 2024 – The Canadian team remains strong at the U19 World Championships in Colorado, with two athletes earning Bronze Medal finishes. This strong overall team performance will be the first Youth World Championships medals since 2018 in Budapest, Hungary, where Charlie Cavanagh won gold in women’s 66kg.

In today’s competitions:

48kg Zoe Courchesne (QC, Crew Boxe+Fitness) lost her semifinal bout against Ruby White of England. Zoe will finish 3rd in her category and first appearance at the World Youth Championships.

55kg Julian Agelakis (BC, Nelson Boxing Club) lost his quarterfinal bout against Michael O’Sullivan from Wales. Julian will finish tied for 5th in his first Youth World Championships.

75kg Jarelyn Castillo (ON, Border City Boxing Club) lost her semifinal bout against Lenka Simon of Germany. Jarelyn will finish 3rd in her category and first appearance at the World Youth Championships.

Canada’s coaching staff expressed pride in the athletes’ performances. National Team Coach Samir El Mais beamed when asked about potential of the athletes. “They have trained hard and their perseverance is paying off. Each of them has now tested themselves on the world stage, and we’re eager to see how they use this experience in the future.”
