Four Canadians took part in the 2018 edition of the Golden Girl Championship

This past weekend, four Canadian boxers travelled along coach Jill Perry to participate in the 2018 Golden Girl Championship, the biggest female boxing tournament in the world taking place in BorΓ₯s, Sweden. Two National Team athletes, 54 Kg Sara Haghighat-Joo and 81 Kg Marija Curran, were part of the Championship.

DAY 1
Youth 60 Kg Katelyn Vanderlaan (CAN) lost by split decision against Ellis Hopkins (ENG)
Elite 54 Kg Sara Haghighat- Joo (CAN) won by unanimous decision against Katrin Noren (SWE)

DAY 2
Elite 54 Kg Sara Haghighat-Joo (CAN) lost 1-4 against Sara Svensson (SWE)
Elite 69 Kg Carolyn Redmond (CAN) won 4-1 against Lena Bertelsen (DEN)

DAY 3
Elite 69 Kg Carolyn Redmond (CAN) lost 1-4 against Marianne Ahlborg (SWE)
Elite 81 Kg Marija Curran (CAN) won 5-0 against Martine Kjartansdottir (NOR)

Moreover, Sara Haghighat-Joo was awarded "Best Bout" of the tournament for her performance against Swedish boxer Katrin Noren.
