Kraig Devlin joins Boxing Canada as Interim High Performance Director

Montreal – July 12, 2022. Boxing Canada is happy to announce the recruitment of Kraig Devlin as Interim High Performance Director. Following the resignation of Daniel Trépanier, Boxing Canada worked with Own the Podium to accelerate the search for an Interim HPD. Devlin will hold this position for 12 weeks, while the search for a permanent High-Performance Director continues.

“We are happy that Kraig has joined our team for a temporary term to help address the opportunities and challenges ahead,” says Roy Halpin, Boxing Canada’s Executive Director. “His experience with the scale of HPD responsibilities will certainly help Boxing Canada refocus on all the major tasks at hand.”

Devlin is no stranger to combat sports, having been heavily involved with Karate Canada in a variety of roles. He served as the High Performance Director from 2019 to 2021, where he led the team during karate’s Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. During his 14 years at Karate Canada, he also served as a High Performance Manager, coach, member of the High Performance Committee, and member and chair of the Long-Term Athlete Development Committee. Devlin also recently completed his Master’s degree in High Performance Coaching and Technical Leadership from the University of British Columbia.

“I welcome the opportunity to lead Boxing Canada’s high performance program during this interim period. I would like to recognize that there have been numerous challenges in the organization that will require intentional effort to overcome and to state that I am committed to learning how best to tackle these challenges,” states Devlin. “Given that we are approximately 750 days out from the Paris 2024 Olympics, my goal during this 12 week term is to support the critical high performance planning work required to keep our athletes on track for this important event. I openly welcome any contact or feedback from the members of Boxing Canada that will help me achieve this goal. “

Devlin was present at the National Training Centre last week during the Elite Domestic Developmental Camp and will provide valuable leadership as members of the Elite National Team prepare for the Commonwealth Games that start at the end of July. His extensive experience will be especially useful as Boxing Canada works to address the recent concerns of the boxing community and improve aspects of the High Performance Program to ensure the success of athletes and coaches in a safe, inclusive environment.
