Montreal – June 30, 2021. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided earlier today that Mandy Bujold has won her case and that the new Tokyo 2020 qualification criteria for the Americas must include an accommodation for female athletes who were pregnant or postpartum during the 11-month qualification period that was retroactively chosen. Following the postponement of the Games and the cancellation of the April 2021 Olympic qualifier event in Argentina, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose events from an 11-month period between 2018 and 2019 to qualify boxers for Tokyo 2020, without accommodating athletes, like Mandy Bujold, who were pregnant and on maternity leave during that period of time.

 

“Boxing Canada was in complete support of Mandy in her legal proceedings, and we are extremely happy with the result,” expresses Boxing Canada President Ryan Savage.

 

“What an incredible and rightful decision, not only for Mandy and her legal team, but also for all the other female athletes who will benefit over time from this decision,” said Boxing Canada Executive Director Roy Halpin.
