McKenzie Wright narrowly misses Olympic Qualification
[Bangkok, Thailand, June 2, 2024] – Canadian boxer McKenzie Wright demonstrated exceptional skill and determination despite narrowly missing out on Olympic qualification.
In a spectacular display of athleticism and sportsmanship, McKenzie Wright (City Boxing Club, ON) put on a great effort against Fatima Herrera from Mexico. The Mexicanβs adept switching between orthodox and southpaw styles presented a formidable challenge for Wright, whose valiant performance earned her admiration from thousands of fans supporting her back home in Canada. Prior to her quarter-final bout, McKenzie Wright impressed with victories over Aldana Lopez from Argentina and Nina Radovanovic, both secured by unanimous decisions. These victories underscore Wright’s skill and potential, highlighting her as a true star in Canadian boxing.
The National Team will return from Thailand for a well-deserved rest before refocusing their energies on competitions this fall. Preparations for the next Olympic cycle have already begun. Current athletes and the freshmen development team now have four years to prepare for LA2028.
Tammara Thibeault and Wyatt Sanford qualified for the games with their Gold Medal performances at the 2023 Pan Am Games. An official team announcement will take place on July 2nd in Montreal.
