Great success for Team Canada against Team Mexico at the Melee Gala & the United Boxing Classic
Team Canada collected seven victories out of ten bouts against Team Mexico last week over the course of two events organized by the United Boxing Club: the Melee Gala and the United Boxing Classic. The Melee V Gala took place at the upscale Metropolitan Entertainment Centre on Thursday, September 7th while the United Boxing Classic was held at the Radisson hotel on Saturday, September 9th.
With six international bouts on the cards, here are the results of both events.
MELEE V Gala - September 7th
First held in 2013, the Melee Gala dinner has quickly established itself as one of the most anticipated dates on any sports fans’ calendars and the fifth edition of the Melee Gala was nothing short of spectacular compared to its previous editions. The event featured the United Boxing Corporate Challenge, where white collar competitors are put through an intensive 12-week boxing training leading to their first bout, and will be followed by six international Olympic-style bouts between Canada and Mexico.
While both teams offered great entertainment, the Canadian team game out victorious with five wins over six bouts!

18 year-old Eric Basran was awarded the prize for "Best Bout" along with a $1000 donation for personal and professional development, a fund issued in honour of John O’Shea, former President of Boxing Canada. Also, Caroline Veyre won the prize for "Best Boxer" of the evening.
Moreover, Alexis Barrière's competition gloves were auctioned off after the event and the funds were donated to Variety, the Children' Charity.

United Boxing Classic - September 9th
Following the success of the first competition against Mexico, Team Canada had the chance to rematch two days later at the first edition of the United Boxing Classic. For the occasion,  four Canadian athletes were featured on the card as 69 Kg Joshua Frazer and 91+ Kg Alexis Barrière were unfortunately unable to participate in the second event due to injuries incurred during the Melee gala.

75 Kg Triston Brookes received the prize for "Best Bout" of the evening while Eric claimed a second prize for "Best Boxer" of the card.
Eric Basran and Caroline Veyre both leave Winnipeg with two wins in as many bouts while Joshua Frazer, Triston Brookes and Alexis Barrière claimed one win over their Mexican opponents.Â
