Boxing Canada extends its thanks to Sport Canada for providing ten of our Nationally-Identified athletes financial support for the 2025 competitive season.

 

The Athlete Assistance Program (AAP) provides a monthly, untaxed benefit for athletes on track to gain top-8 results in Olympic and Paralympic events at World Championships and Olympic/Paralympic Games.

 

Boxing Canada nominates a long list of athletes based on our AAP selection criteria document. This selection document is updated each year to best support the current needs of our athletes.

 

For the 2025 competitive season Boxing Canada and Sport Canada are realigning the carding “year” to better align with the international competitive season. Carding used to begin May 1st and run until April 30th each year. This season’s carding will run just 9 months from May 1, 2025 to January 31st, 2026. The next carding year will run a full 12 months February 1st, 2026 to January 31st, 2027.

The criteria for carding starting next season (Feb 1, 2026 – January 31st 2027) are published here, and in the athlete’s section of our website, and in the documents/resources section of the website.

“Need-to-know”s for 2026 carding:

• Results qualifying for this criteria are collected from January 1st 2025 to December 31st 2025.
• Sport Canada will provide eight cards for Boxing Canada athletes, subject to the gender requirements of the criteria. In previous years Sport Canada mandated four cards for women, for cards for men.
• Drafts of the carding criteria had input from and were presented to Own The Podium, Sport Canada, Boxing Canada Athletes Advisory Group, Boxing Canada HP Advisory Group, and the HP Update meetings.
