Tammara Thibeault will be the sole Canadian fighting for Gold at the 2019 AMBC Pan Am Qualifiers

The semifinals came to a close after 6 intense days of competition at the 2019 AMBC Pan Am Games Qualifiers. Sabrina Aubin was the last Canadian to perform in semifinals in the hopes of joining Tammara Thibeault in the finals of the competition. Indeed, Tammara confirmed her spot in the final yesterday after a convincing win against Naomi Graham from USA. Unfortunately, Sabrina was unable to make it past the semifinals. Here’s a quick recap of her last performance:

57 kg Sabrina Aubin (St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC)

Sabrina’s semifinal match was against #10 ranked featherweight in the world, Leonela Sanchez from Argentina. The bout was intense, both physically and technically, and both boxers gave it their all to earn a spot in the final. Unfortunately, it was the Argentinian boxer who was declared the winner of the bout by a unanimous decision of the judges. Despite the defeat, Sabrina wins the bronze medal in her weight category.

With the finals set to take place later on today, Tammara Thibeault is the only remaining Canadian competing in the 2019 AMBC Pan Am Games Qualifier. Ranked #4 in the world in her weight division, she will fighting for gold this afternoon against the Colombian Jessica Caicedo. It will be the 15th and last bout of the session starting at 4pm PST // 6pm EST. Don’t miss any of the action and tune in to cheer Tammara as she will attempt to claim GOLD for Canada in the 75 kg weight category.

Both Sabrina Aubin (57 kg) and Irene Fiolek (60 kg) will be bringing back a bronze medal from the competition while Myriam Da Silva (69 kg), Harley-David O’Reilly (81 kg) and Bryan Colwell (91 kg) finished in the Top 8 in their respective category.
