Team Canada will square off against Team USA in a dual boxing card at the twenty-fifth annual Ken Goff Memorial Boxing Classic (KGMBC) on Friday, May 4 at the EventPlex at Evraz Place and Brandt Cup rematch on Sunday, May 6 at Ramada Plaza Regina. World Championship and Youth Olympic medalists are among the boxers who will represent Team USA in the eight bout boxing card.
Team Canada’s Sara Haghighat-Joo dropped an entire weight division for a chance to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games in the 51 kg weight division. Currently there are three Olympic weight divisions for women’s boxing: 51 kg, 60 kg, and 75 kg.
“This is a great experience to test my abilities against an experienced boxer and see where I am at now in this new Olympic weight division,” said Haghighat-Joo. “I have put in the work and I feel confident going into the event. The Ken Goff Memorial Boxing Classic will be a great experience leading up to the World Championships later this year.”
The KGMBC is a Regina Boxing Club event, presented by Brandt Group of Companies.
