Training Camp in France

The Canadian National Team was in France late May and into June training with other national teams. The format of the camp had the women in Vittel and the men in Nancy.

Coaches Samir ElMais and Vincent Auclair focused on skill development and building a shared feeling of purpose for the athletes. Sara Kali reflected on the focus of the camp. “Boxing is so unique. It’s both a team and an individual sport.”

Coach Auclair emphasized the need to develop more than just individual athletes. “Individual performance is built on top of a strong feeling of team and support. When athletes are part of a strong team, each individual team member becomes that much stronger when they are alone in the ring.”

Canadian coaches and athletes were excited to see the success the National Team had compared to the international camp participants. “We owned our power”, said Scarlett Delgado, when reflecting on how the Canadians compared to the international boxers.

Tammara Thibeault said the camp “was the perfect opportunity to learn from each other and grow closer as a team towards the bigger goal, Paris 2024. We pushed each other to be the best version of ourselves in and outside of the ring and that in itself is priceless.”
