Two Canadians competing at the 2019 International Women’s Boxing Tournament “Balkan”

Three National Team boxers flew to Bulgaria on Wednesday to attend the 5th edition of the International Women’s Boxing Tournament “Balkan. The competition is set to take place August 2-6, and here are the boxers who will be representing Canada:

51 kg Sara Haghighat-Joo

57 kg Caroline Veyre

Kaitlyn Clark was also supposed to take part in the tournament and travelled with the team to Bulgaria, but was forced to pull out of the competition. “Unfortunately, a few weeks prior to the competition I had a medical issue and was in the hospital. I was hoping to be at 100% for the competition, but my body decided otherwise and I was unable to. I’m absolutely devastated by this, but know that God has a plan and this will just make me stronger. I’m still going to use this opportunity to watch and learn from my veteran teammates and take away as much knowledge as possible so I can come back stronger and better.”

The boxers accompanied by National Team Assistant coach Samir El Mais and physiotherapist Bryan Li.

Both Sara and Caroline will enter the competition on Saturday, August 2nd. Sara will be facing Sandra Drabic from Poland, while Caroline will step into the ring against Szabina Szucs (HUN) after obtaining a bye for the 1st round of the competition.

All session will be streamed live on Bulgaria Boxing’s YouTube Channel. For more information (schedule, draw, results), visit our Event webpage for all details.
