Wyatt Sanford Dominates Opening Bout at Paris Olympics, Prepares for Upcoming Challenge
Paris, July 29, 2024 — Wyatt Sanford made an impressive debut in the 63.5 kg weight division at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games today, securing a decisive 5-0 victory against Bulgaria’s Radoslav Simeonov in his first bout. Sanford’s dominant performance has set the stage for an exciting continuation of his Olympic journey as he prepares to face Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Abdullaev on August 1st.
Sanford, reflecting on his victory, emphasized the crucial role of timing in managing his opponent’s speed. “I would have liked to land more shots than what I did, but we did enough to win the fight,” Sanford said. “Playing with the lead hand was the game plan, and it helped me stay in control throughout the bout.”
Looking ahead to his next opponent, Sanford expressed confidence in his team’s preparation. “We’re going to implement a strategic plan tailored to the next opponent. We will keep making adjustments to ensure we’re ready for any challenge that comes our way.”

Coach Vincent Auclair praised Sanford’s performance, highlighting his strategic execution. “Wyatt delivered a very good first bout. It’s a great way to start the competition. He followed the game plan against a fast and agile opponent and used his experience to secure the win.”
Coach Samir El Mais only had good words for Sanford’s debut performance: ”Wyatt was able to time his opponent coming. When he figured his timing and range, he was able to get the 8 count in the first round, and followed up by dropping his opponent in the second round. He started off the show well for team Canada!”
As Sanford gears up for his next fight, the anticipation continues to build.
